Delivery and Returns Policy
When you buy signed first edition books from us, you want to know you’ll receive your order within a few days and in A1 condition. Meeting this target was the starting point for our delivery & returns policy.
For the purposes of this delivery & returns policy, ‘we’, ‘us’ and ‘our’ means MSE Books. While ‘you’ and ‘your’ means our customers.
The words ‘products’, ‘items’ and ‘goods’ will mean the same and they will all refer to anything bought from our website. Also, note that these words in the singular include the plural and in the plural include the singular.
2. International deliveries
At this time, we only ship to certain European countries, the USA and Canada, Israel, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. For a full list of countries and costs, please see our Delivery Rates page.
3. UK deliveries
To try an avoid the frustration of lost or delayed items, we only send UK orders by Royal Mail recorded / special delivery or by a courier service. This means all orders will need a signature on delivery.
4. Delivery address
We will arrange to send the items you’ve ordered to the delivery address shown on your order. (The delivery address can be any address. That is, as long as the address at which your payment card is registered is on your order as the billing address.)
We do not deliver to Post Office (P.O.) boxes or shipping agent addresses. Nor do we deliver to the following countries due to sanctions imposed by various governments and international organisations:
Albania, Belarus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Burma (Myanmar), Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast), Croatia, Cuba, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Liberia, North Korea, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, Sudan, Syria, Zimbabwe
5. Delivery charges
As you add items to your shopping basket, we automatically show and update the delivery charge. This means you’ll always be able to see the total cost of delivery before you place your order. If you want to see a full list of charges before you start shopping, please go to our Delivery Rates page.
You will only pay one delivery charge for each order. Even if we choose to split the order across a number of deliveries to give you a better service, you will pay no extra.
If you place your order before 2.00pm GMT on a working day (Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays), we aim to ship the goods by the end of the next working day. Subject, that is, to the following:
- All of the items are in stock; and
- There are no security or payment hold-ups.
Now and then, we may not be able to meet our target timeframe for shipping your order. What we do guarantee, however, is that unless there are exceptional circumstances we will ship your order within 30 days of receipt of your payment or the date of our order confirmation, whichever is the later.
We will try to deliver your order on or before the delivery date set out in our order confirmation. If there’s no delivery date on the order confirmation, we aim to deliver within five working days of the date of our order confirmation. However, due to the use of third party delivery services, we cannot guarantee delivery by the relevant date.
Deliveries will arrive Monday to Friday between the hours of 7am and 6pm; we are unable to confirm an exact delivery time.
The items in your order will be at your risk from the time of delivery (see our Terms of Sale for more detailed information on risk and ownership).
7. Force majeure
A ‘force majeure event’ is:
- Any event that is beyond our reasonable control;
- The unavailability of goods; and / or
- Including but not limited to any failure of communication, telecommunication or computer systems, power failure, industrial disputes affecting any third party, governmental regulations, fires, floods, disasters, civil riots, terrorist attacks or wars.
If we become aware of a force majeure event which gives rise to, or which is likely to give rise to, any failure or delay in us meeting our delivery goals, we will let you know as soon as we can.
We will take reasonable steps to lessen the effects of any force majeure event. However, where a force majeure event gives rise to a failure or delay in us meeting our delivery commitments, those commitments will be set aside for the duration of the event.
8. Cancellation of Orders
There is no cost penalty if you cancel your order prior to despatch. In this situation, you can cancel an order by giving us a call on 01524 427427, which is probably the best way. On the other hand, you can use our enquiry form, if you prefer. If we’ve already charged your card for the order by the time you get in touch, we’ll issue a full refund as soon as we can.
9. Order receipt
We send a numbered receipt with every order. Please make sure you keep this, as you’ll need the order number if you wish to return any goods to us. (As your order may have included high-value items, you could also need the receipt at some time in the future for insurance reasons.)
This section applies to consumers, not business customers. If you are a business customer, the relevant returns policy is set out in Section 12.
Under the Distance Selling Regulations, you may cancel a contract to buy items from us at any time within 7 working days of receiving the items (subject to the limitations set out below). Note the 7 working day period starts the day after the date on which you received your order.
Please note that we are unable to accept cancellation of, or returns for, digital items once downloading has started.
In order to cancel a contract this way, you must give us written notice that you wish to cancel by using our enquiry form. Please make sure you include your order number as part of the cancellation request.
If you cancel a contract on this basis, you must return the items to us so we get them within 10 working days of the date on which you told us you wanted to cancel. You must return the items to us in the same condition in which you received them. To avoid the risk of loss, or any dispute over non-delivery, you should send the items back to us using a signed for service.
If you cancel a contract on this basis, you will get a full refund for the items you send back. We will also include in the refund our charge, if any, for sending the items to you in the first place. However, you will be responsible for paying the full cost of returning the items to us.
If you cancel a contract on this basis and you do not return the items to us, we may recover the items and charge you for the costs we incur in doing so. Similarly, if you return the items at our expense, we may pass that expense on to you.
11. Consumers: statutory rights
If you are a consumer, any statutory rights which you have, which cannot be excluded or limited, will not be affected by our Delivery and Returns Policy.
12. Business customers: returns policy
This Section applies to business customers, not consumers. If you are a consumer, the applicable returns policy is set out in Section 10.
You may only return items to us with our prior agreement and according to our instructions. In addition, you must return any items at your own expense. Any items returned in breach of this Section will not qualify for a refund or replacement. In which case, you will still be liable for payment of the price of such items.
Where you return items to us in line with the terms of this Section, and in our reasonable view those items do not conform to the warranties set out in our Terms of Sale, then you will be entitled to:
- Replacement items (where replacements are available) or,
- Where we agree, a refund of the price paid for the items (including any delivery charges).
