The Good Man Jesus and the Scoundrel Christ by Philip Pullman

‘If I vanished he wouldn’t notice, if I died he wouldn’t care.  I think of him all the time, and he thinks of me not at all.  I love him, and my love torments me.  There are times when I feel like a ghost beside him; as if he alone is real, and I’m just a daydream.’

This is the story of two brothers.

One impassioned and one reserved.

One is destined to go down in history and the other to be forgotten.

In Pullman’s hands, this sacred tale is reborn as one of the most enchanting, thrilling and visionary stories of recent years.

Peer & Press Reviews

A very bold and deliberately outrageous fable rehearsing Pullman’s familiar and passionate fury at corrupt religious systems of control…  But also introducing something quite different, a voice of genuine spiritual authority.  Because that is what Pullman’s Jesus undoubtedly is.

Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury

A supreme storyteller…  Pullman has done the story a service by reminding us of its extraordinary power to provoke and disturb.

Daily Telegraph

Pullman has a gift for creating scenes that make the reader want to put down the book and say “"wow”… this is a book that remains in the mind days after the final page has been turned…  The greatest story ever told has come alive anew.

Canongate released this novel in two versions – one with a white slipcase and jacket spine and one with a black slipcase and jacket spine.  Perversely, the jacket on the white edition has black front and back panels and the book’s cover is also black.  The black edition colour scheme is the opposite to this!

The books are hand numbered and signed by Pullman to a tipped-in title page.  Note it’s almost impossible to get matching numbers as the books were distributed in unnumbered shrink wrap.
