The Comfort Book by Matt Haig

Reflections on hope, survival and the messy miracle of being alive.

It is a strange paradox, that many of the clearest, most comforting life lessons are learned while we are at our lowest.  But then we never think about food more than when we are hungry and we never think about life rafts more than when we are thrown overboard.

The Comfort Book is a collection of consolations learned in hard times and suggestions for making the bad days better.  Drawing on maxims, memoir and the inspirational lives of others, these meditations celebrate the ever-changing wonder of living.  This is for when we need the wisdom of a friend or a reminder we can always nurture inner strength and hope, even in our busy world.

A book of timeless comfort for modern minds.

Peer & Press Reviews

Praise for Matt Haig:

Haig is one of the most inspirational popular writers on mental health of our age.

Independent

Matt Haig has a way of looking at life which will make you stop and think, and by the time you reach the last page, you will understand the world just that little bit better and feel a little more comfortable being in it.

Joanna Cannon

Haig writes exquisitely from the perspective of the heart-sore outsider, but at their most moving his novels reveal the unbearable beauty of ordinary life.

Edition background

For ordering purposes, the Independent Bookshop and the standard trade edition have different ISBNs: 9781838855833 for the IB edition and 9781786898296 for the standard edition.

However, the ISBN on the copyright page and the jacket is that of the standard edition.  But the dark blue sprayed page edges and the sticker on the front of the jacket confirms the book is an Exclusive and Signed Independent Edition.

Jacket noteOn the front of the jacket is an Independent Edition sticker (see image).  As the paper used for the jacket has a SuperMatt laminate finish, WE DON’T ADVISE REMOVING THIS as it could result in a flaw known as Sticker Ghost.
